The terms, in plain language

Every public page here is free to read, with no account and no payment. You may quote the figures, screenshot the charts, and link to any page. If you are publishing something based on what you found here, a credit to VoteIQ with a link to the page you used is appreciated and helps readers check the number for themselves.

The underlying records are public property, not ours: they come from the NC State Board of Elections and the Wake County Board of Elections, and you can download them yourself. What we ask you not to claim is that a VoteIQ figure is the official record. It is our reading of the official record, and our methodology page explains exactly where the two differ.

We build these figures carefully, we document how each one is produced, and we correct errors when we find them or when you tell us about one. What we cannot do is guarantee that every number is correct. The files we read are large, they change weekly, and they occasionally contain errors of their own that we inherit until the next file corrects them.

So the site is provided as it is, without warranty. Please do not rely on it alone for a decision with real consequences: for anything that matters, check the figure against the source file, which the methodology page tells you how to find. We are not responsible for a loss that follows from a number on this site being wrong or unavailable.

One rule matters more than the rest, and it is the reason this site is built the way it is: do not try to identify individuals. Public pages carry aggregates only, small cells are withheld, and you may not combine, scrape, or cross-reference what is published here to reconstruct voter-level records or to work out how any individual is registered.

Also, plainly: do not scrape the site in a way that degrades it for other people, do not present the data as though it came from an election board, and do not use it to harass anyone.

The form on our candidates page records your interest. It does not create an account, it does not grant access, and it is not a contract. We verify each request against candidate filings with the NC State Board of Elections, and access is granted at our discretion.

If you are granted access, the workspace is covered by its own agreement, which you will see before you use it. Nothing on this page gives anyone access to voter-level data.

What we do with what you type into that form is described on our privacy page, in the same plain terms as this one.

We may update these terms as the product changes. When we do, the date at the top and bottom of this page changes with them, and material changes will be described here rather than made quietly.

This page is written to be honest and readable rather than exhaustive. It is not legal advice, and it will be reviewed by counsel before the candidate product is sold. If something here is unclear or looks wrong to you, we would rather hear it than not.
