What we collect, and what we never will

North Carolina voter registration is a public record. The state publishes it, and anyone can download it. VoteIQ reads that official file, but the public pages on this site show aggregates only: counts and percentages for a whole precinct, district, or county. Your name is not on this site. Your address is not on this site. Your registration is not searchable here.

That is not a policy we could quietly change. The public pages are served by a database account that has no permission to read voter-level tables at all, so there is no code path that could put an individual on a public page. Small groups are suppressed on top of that, so a precinct with fewer than ten voters in a category shows as suppressed rather than as a number that could single someone out.

Some figures are modeled estimates rather than counts, and those are always labeled. The methodology page explains what the model does and what it does not.

There are exactly two forms on this site, and here is what each one stores.

The newsletter signup stores your email address and which page you subscribed from. Nothing else. We use it to send the newsletter and for nothing else.

The candidate access request stores what you enter: your name, email, phone if you give one, your role, your district, your campaign if you give one, and your message. It also records your browser’s user agent string. We use it to evaluate and respond to your request.

Both forms run a Cloudflare Turnstile check on submit to keep automated spam out. Turnstile was chosen over the alternatives specifically because it sets no tracking cookies. Cloudflare receives the check itself and basic request metadata as part of running it.

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count page views and understand which pages people find useful. It runs in production only. GA4 sets first-party cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_*) and collects page views, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and basic device and browser information.

That is the only tracking on the site. There are no advertising networks, no third-party trackers, no session recording, no cross-site profiles, and no data brokers. If you prefer to opt out, Google publishes a browser opt-out add-on, and any ordinary content blocker will stop it as well. Nothing on this site breaks if you block it.

Like any web server, ours records requests. We also keep an internal operations log so we can tell when something is broken. When a form submission fails or is refused, that log records the reason and, for an access request, the email address on the submission, so we can tell you what happened if you write to us. These logs are visible only to the operator of this site.

• We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
• We never publish an individual voter on a public page.
• We never share your form submission with a campaign or a third party.
• We never run advertising or allow ad networks on this site.
• We never email you because you visited. Only because you asked.

Newsletter signups and access requests are business records, so we keep them until you ask us to delete them. Operational logs are pruned automatically on a short cycle. Analytics data follows Google’s retention settings for the property.

Write to our contact form and we will:

• tell you exactly what we hold about you,
• correct anything that is wrong,
• delete it,
• or unsubscribe you from the newsletter.

One person reads that inbox, so please allow a few days. To be clear about the limit of what we can do: we cannot remove you from the North Carolina voter file, because that is a public record maintained by the state, not by us. For that, contact the NC State Board of Elections.

If what we collect changes, this page changes in the same release, and the date at the top moves. We will not quietly broaden it.
